Reishi Mushroom (Ganoderma) - Ling Zhi
This herb is known by the Taoists as the “mushroom of
immortality” and has long been considered a longevity
and immune tonic. It is used to minimize the effects of
both radiation and chemotherapy, research has shown Reishi
to be helpful in many types of cancer and in HIV/AIDS. It
helps to oxengenate the blood and has long been given to
mountain climbers to prevent altitude sickness. Reishi also

Functions:

Indications:
Heart and Liver Yin and Blood deficiency, deficient heat and Liver Yang rising, with severe disturbance of the Shen and Hun. Presenting with anxiety, palpitations, insomnia, excessive dreaming, nightmares, dream disturbed sleep, panic attacks, irritability, restlessness, agitation, emotional instability and lack of control, an over-active and restless mind, poor memory and concentration, forgetfulness, dizziness, tinnitus, heat intolerance, malar or facial flushing. May also be used to treat Heart and Kidney not communicating with severe Shen disturbance, which may include many of the above symptoms along with chest pain or oppression. Tongue: red if Yin deficiency is predominant, pale with a red tip if Blood deficiency predominant, and may look normal if Yin and Blood are both deficient. Coat: dry, yellow Pulse: thin, weak, rapid, wiry

For insomnia 8-16 pills may be administered before bed. May be used medium to long-term for several weeks to several months. May be used for severe episodes over the course of several years. Monitor for signs of Spleen Qi deficiency. For weakened digestion with a tendency to dampness or phlegm, it may be administered with Bao He San/Wan or Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi San/Wan.
